Free Speech Machine Out and About

When the weather warms up, it's time for the Free Speech machine to hit the town.

Monday, May 4th, the Free Speech machine will be asking attendees of bushcon to speak their unvarnished truth!

bushcon is a gathering of regional community leaders from across all disciplines, so there's sure to be some interesting speech to be heard. And we'll be debuting some new additions to the FSM itself.
Live attendance is limited to registered participants, but we'll post photos along with the recordings.

Free Speech Machine, along with several other projects, is there at the invitation of Springboard for the Arts to represent Ready Go, a new initiative of Springboard to connect non-profits, businesses and organizations with artist-designed projects that bring people together in conversation.

The Free Speech Machine was running during Cache at the Casket Arts Building November 8, but only a few visitors were brave enough to speak their minds.

9.16.2014

The August 29th Play on Penn was rained out, and there was a fall chill in the air for the make-up date on September 5th, but we still had some folks with something to say.

The kids practiced their salesman patter and barker skills:

And a another musical interlude...

A little delayed but worth the wait - audio from Play on Penn on Friday, August 22, 2014.

And a small musical interlude...

8.18.2014

The Free Speech Machine was out at Play on Penn again last Friday, but without the barker, not as many people got up to speak their minds. Only two more Fridays to let people know what you're thinking about. Use your chance to give some feedback about what you'd like to see on Penn Avenue N in Minneapolis.

And our singers were back again:

Audio from our second week at Play on Penn. Come out and join us this Friday, August 15 to let us know what's on your mind and what your vision for Minneapolis' Northside is.

Again, the musical portion of our broadcast...

The Free Speech Machine was at "Play on Penn" at the corner of Penn Ave N and W. Broadway Ave this past Friday. We had some very enthusiastic participants - have a listen to what they had to say.

And now for the musical portion of the evening:

The FSM will be back every Friday in August starting at 7pm. "Play on Penn" is an activity of FLOW Northside Art Crawl

The Free Speech Machine came out of retirement for the 2014 Art-a-Whirl. Have a listen at what visitors had to say.

One more file from the last night of the Translating Politics Exhibition.

Here are files from the American Politics Sideshow on September 4th. The barker did a great job of getting people to step up to the megaphone, and these people really had some things to say, so these files are a little longer and larger than normal.

Only one week until the FSM comes out of hibernation for the UnConvention. Remember, Sept. 1-4 from 1-9pm at the 3rd Floor Gallery of the Northrup King Art Building.
And Sept. 4 from 11-1pm at the plaza in front of the Weisman Art Museum.

Check for new audio starting on September 2nd

Can't make it to the FSM? A related project is here to help. Just send a short announcement through the form below.

The Free Speech Surrogate offers participants the chance to say what’s on their mind without the risk of reprisal. Liberty personified will read public announcements supplied by passersby and Internet submissions. Announcements happen twice daily on September 1st and 2nd at 12 noon and 5pm. Look for the woman in the flowing Greek robes and red Phrygian cap.

8.05.2008

We're getting the FSM dusted off and oiled up for a busy summer.

Look for the FSM at the Translating Politics show at the Third Floor Gallery in the Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
The show runs from 1-9pm September 1st-4th, with special receptions every evening from 5-9.

The FSM will also be part of the American Politics Sideshow taking place at the Weisman Art Musuem on September 4th. The sideshow runs from 10am-8pm. The FSM will be there from 11am-1pm. The Weisman is located on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus at 333 E. River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55455

Both these events at part of the Unconvention, so there should be a great turnout and lots of new audio for the blog.

8.22.2007

Here is audio from the FSM's appearance at the Ventura Village Art Fair. The weather was daunting, but it couldn't keep everyone away.
